St Michael's Sports News
It has certainly been a busy start to Term 1 2022. The unprecedented rain we have experienced saw many events either cancelled or postponed. We had 6 students make Wollongong sporting teams in a variety of sports and with extremely late notice, we were finally able to hold the School Cross Country.
On Tuesday, after a lot of consultation with weather Apps, the decision was made to run the school Cross Country at the oval next to the Shoalhaven Hospital. It was a day where the sun was forecast to shine for the majority of the day which has been rare over the past weeks. Due to the persistent rain over the past month, we were unable to hold it at our usual venue at Willandra. The weather on Tuesday was fantastic and the ground had managed to dry out. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm from the students who participated in the day. Well done to all the students for their efforts on the day and especially Grade 6 who assisted as course marshals and cheered all the students whilst they raced. Special mentions must go out to Diesel Romeo, Tim Tyler, Alvis Maliakkal, Georgia Mouawad, Tanisha Vella, Jett Taylor, Miley Winchester, Cayden Bramble, Trae Yenne and Will Anderson, whose assistance throughout the whole day was invaluable, as they helped the teachers and encouraged and supported the runners.
Here are the results from the day.

The top 3 runners in each age group will progress to the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival, which is to be held at Willandra on Tuesday, 3rd May.
2 weeks ago, Taj Goddard, Noah Jamieson, Callum Farrugia, Cooper Green and Luke Keating trialled for the 11 years and 12 years, Wollongong Rugby League Teams. The boys were up against some tall and strong competition. They were put through some warm-up drills and then were divided up into teams. The games were made even harder as it was raining. The trials were wrapped up early due to the persistent rain. Out of the five boys who trailled, Noah and Taj were successful in making the Wollongong Team. Well done to all the boys for their exceptional efforts at these trails.
On Friday, 25th March, Jack Meagher and Lincoln Taylor from Grade 6 represented St Michael’s and the Wollongong Diocese by competing in the NSW MacKillop Rugby League Trials held in Wagga Wagga. The boys played in 4 games against teams from Sydney, Parramatta, Wagga Wagga and Albury. The quality of the opposition was tough and the games were all very close. The boys managed to help steer their team to 2 wins. Jack and Lincoln were unsuccessful in making the MacKillop team but thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done to both boys.
