St Michael's Sports Corner

The netball representative season has just concluded, which saw seven of our
St Michael’s students represent the Shoalhaven Netball Association with pride and commitment. Namely, Rylie Eastcott and Jazmine Tolhurst-Moon, playing in the 12 years Development Team and Elise Campbell, Zoe Douglas, Phoebe Duncan, Brooklyn Horwood and Olivia Seymour-Munn, playing in the 11 years Development Squad. The season was a challenging one, hampered by wild weather, COVID, other sickness and injuries.

The 12 years girls completed three carnivals at Shoalhaven, Kiama and Campbelltown, which saw them play against tough opposition and sometimes against 13 years development teams as well. The girls are to be congratulated on their improvement, consistent effort and especially on their willingness to play out of position when needed.

The 11 years girls completed five carnivals at Shoalhaven, Camden, Penrith, Liverpool and Campbelltown. This was a huge step up for these girls from club netball into the representative environment and they all demonstrated fantastic improvement over the course of the season. They too, came up against some difficult opponents at times but they all demonstrated a positive attitude and willingness to learn at training and on the court. Well done and congratulations to all the girls!

Continuing on with Netball, our Year 6 netball girls travelled to Eurobodalla to compete in South Coast finals of the School Cup. The girls played 5 games against the best netballers south of Nowra. They came up against some quality schools who were well drilled and practised. The girls fought hard in every match. Unfortunately, despite the girls’ best efforts, they could only come away with one win. The girls all put in their best on the day and had loads of fun competing in a sport that they all love. Thank you to Ms Lenihan for training and coaching the girls on the day.

This Friday 5 August, the Year 6 Paul Kelly Cup team will be travelling to Ulladulla to participate in the South Coast Finals. The boys have been training during some of the recess and lunch time under Ms Scurr’s guidance. The boys will be taking on the AFL best schools south of Sydney. We wish the boys and Ms Scurr all the best on the day and look forward to hearing their results on their return.

Next Tuesday 9 August, we have 20 students travelling to Beaton Park to represent the school and complete in the Primary South Coast Athletics Carnival. Students from Years 2-6 will be competing in both track and field events against other schools in the Wollongong Diocese. We wish those students completing in the day the best of luck.

We have locked in a date for the St Michael’s Sport Day for Years 3-6. This will be held on Friday 16 September. It will be held at school and will consist of the students participating in a variety of sports that will occur around the school. More information will be released about the day closer to the event.

Now that winter sports are coming to an end, we can start to look towards summer sports. There are a host of sports on offer for the students to participate in. I have listed a few below with a link or phone number for further details;
