ST PATRICK'S DAY

St_Patricks_Joke.jpg

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone for supporting our Wear Green for St Patrick’s Day.

We raised $600 for Caritas Australia. The money raised this Lent helps transform the lives of people living in poverty.

Together, we can make a difference now, and FOR ALL FUTURE GENERATIONS.

LA CONGRESS

Mr Paton and I had a truly uplifting trip to Los Angeles where we attended the Religious Education Congress, visited a K-12 Catholic School, cathedrals, and Homeboy Industries.

The theme for the Congress was ‘Embrace Grace’. The grace we receive in Baptism is the gift of the Holy Spirit. We have the power to walk in Jesus’ footsteps, bear witness to his love in our lives, and serve him in the mission of building his kingdom.

The liturgies and masses were brought to life through music, liturgical movement, processions and most importantly inclusiveness. It was wonderful to see Americans celebrating their faith.

Inclusiveness is an important area that Mr Paton and I are keen to develop further here at St Michael’s. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Homeboy Industries is the largest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. For over 30 years, they have been a beacon of hope in Los Angeles to provide training and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated people, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of their community. We had lunch at their Homegirl Café, Ooe of the training programs, provided to assist people in building a better life. The founder of Homeboy Industries, Fr Gregory Boyle, S.J. overwhelmingly demonstrates the power of boundless compassion.

We can all try to follow one of his empowering quotes…

“Sooner or later, we all discover that kindness is the only strength there is.”

Martine Mathison
