Public Speaking Competition News

This week we are delighted to share some exciting news that fills us with pride and enthusiasm.

Public_Speaking_ELLA_OLIVIA.jpgLast Monday Ella Walsh, Year 5 and Olivia Seymour-Munn, Year 6 continued on their journey of self-expression and growth representing St Michael’s at the Diocesan Public Speaking Finals at Good Samaritan Fairy Meadow. The art of Public Speaking is more than just words; it’s about confidence, self-assuredness, and the ability to convey thoughts and ideas effectively. At St Michael’s we believe that nurturing these skills in our students is important in their overall development.

Ella’s topic ‘Watch your language’ reminded us to be thoughtful about the words we use harnessing the power of words to spread kindness. Her eloquent speech offered a beacon of hope, encouraging us to see things through the eyes of a child.

Olivia used her voice to explain the notion that ‘Accidents aren’t always a bad thing’. Her speech delved into the world of inventions and physics and how many terrific innovations and amazing treats like the choc chip cookie came about because of an accident. Both girls demonstrated their ability to connect with the audience speaking with confidence and highlighting the impact of effective communication and the potential we all have to make a difference through our voices.

We want to extend our appreciation to all the Year 5 and Year 6 parents for the unwavering support you provide to our young orators. Your encouragement, whether through practicing speeches at home, cheering from the audience, or offering a listening ear, plays a vital role in their journey to success.
