Our St Michael’s Mini Vinnies team consists of 44 young people of hope. They are a blessing to our community, as they courageously pledge to grow in awareness of the issues faced by people who experience disadvantage; to reflect upon the connection between faith and action; and to do good works to help those in need within our school and local community.
Their first task is to promote Caritas Australia, an Australian Catholic agency whose main fundraising campaign is called Project Compassion. The funds raised assist people living in some of the most vulnerable communities in the world.
During Lent, we ask the students to focus on fasting- we traditionally give something up, often lollies, a favourite food or limit time on devices, in order to focus on the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross.
Setting aside time each day to pray and share our hopes, joys, fears and frustrations with God.
Lent is also a time to be charitable. It is called almsgiving, which means making the needs of other people our own. We can do this by donating. Each classroom has a Project Compassion box for donations. Students might help at home for a coin or give up some of their money for the canteen. After the first week of Lent we have already raised $200.
Thank you for your generosity in supporting ALL FUTURE GENERATIONS. This fundraiser will end on Thursday 28 March.
