Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Last week our school hosted the Diocesan Cross Country event at Willandra. I wish to extend a big thank you to all of the staff and parents for your incredible support during this event. The enthusiasm and dedication of staff and parents played a crucial role in making the event a resounding success. To all of our parents who attended as either a spectator or Parents and Friends helper, your encouragement and presence were deeply appreciated by the students and staff alike. Your involvement not only boosts the morale of the students but also reinforces the strong sense of community we are so proud of at our school. Mr Allmark as convenor and Ms Holland as team leader both made a substantial contribution to the success of the carnival.
Since the beginning of May, the school has been consistently interviewing Kindergarten students for 2025. The interviews are currently being finalised. Offers for places in 2025 will be made in Week 9 of this term.
Last Thursday I was fortunate to attend the Year 2 excursion to Pioneer Village in Kangaroo Valley. The students, parents and staff learnt a great deal about life in Kangaroo Valley in the 1800s and 1900s. Congratulations to the students for behaving so well for the whole day. I am grateful to the staff and parents for their dedication and care of the Year 2 students.
A Staff Development Day with literacy expert Dr Tessa Daffern will be held on Monday 24 June 2024. Dr Daffern’s current projects include:
- NESA NSW English Syllabus Reform: Writer, K-6 English Syllabus
- School-based Professional Learning Pathways (tailored workshop series)
On Monday 24 June, Dr Daffern will work with St Michael's staff on 'Spelling'. The school is fortunate to have been able to employ Dr Daffern to assist unpack the new spelling curriculum. This is a Pupil Free Staff Development Day.
ST MICHAEL'S CATHOLIC SCHOOL VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT
Since the final term of 2022, the school has been developing a new Vision and Mission statement for St Michael’s Catholic School Nowra. This was a recommendation from the Catholic Education Office Wollongong review of the school in 2022. Surveys have been conducted with staff, families and students in the last 18 months to discover what they would like to see the school transform towards. These surveys have been correlated and interrogated to ensure the school understands what all stakeholders would like the school to become. I am pleased to officially launch the new Vision and Mission statement. The link will take you to a PDF of Google Slides which contain St Michael’s Catholic School Vision, Mission and Virtues. This updated statement will hopefully reflect the changing needs of our school community and align with the school's long-term goals and aspirations. By engaging all stakeholders in the process, we believe the new statement will reflect everything the school aspires to.
Yours in faith and virtue
