Year One News

Year One students have been learning to write about ocean animals and were given the choice of four animals: sea turtles, seahorses, seals and jellyfish.
Students used iPads to independently research their chosen creature.
As a result students were able to state the classification, appearance, diet, habitat and an interesting fact. Further to this, the students were able to select how they wished to present their findings including creasting an:
1) Animal cut out
2) Poster
3) Information wheel
4) Mini book
5) Research paper

On Monday 23 September, Year 1 students enjoyed an excursion to Tilbury Cove, Culburra. This excursion complimented the work students have been doing in Geography (features of places) and Science (living things and habitats).
Students made maps of the local features in the sand, showcasing their knowledge of natural and man-made features, including the special Culunghutti mountain to the North. Students also designed and made habitats for native animals, and explored the amazing sea life on the rock platforms. We were even lucky enough to see several whales, including a mother and calf, who put on a magical show for us.
