Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Staff and Students,
Last Thursday a number of staff and parents attended the local production of ‘Xanadu’ at the Players Theatre in Bomaderry. It was a great production based on the movie from the 1980s. The Thursday night production was also a fundraiser for the “Mother Ruth Foundation”, which provides a scholarship to St John’s Nowra for one of our present Year 6 students. The foundation has been operating since 1968 and continues to honour the memory of Sister Ruth Hayes, a much loved and respected former Principal. Congratulations to both everyone in the production as well as the foundation committee. A great show!
Earlier this week we were visited by Martin Chatterton, an author and illustrator. The students in Years 4-6 loved his workshop and have hopefully been inspired by him. Thank you to Mrs McKenna for organising the incursion. Next Tuesday Year 3 will have an excursion to the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre to see the production of ‘Picasso and his dog’.
Today students in Year 6 have travelled to Canberra for an overnight excursion. When I met with Year 6 on Tuesday they were very excited about each educational visit they were going to make in Canberra. It is an exceptional excursion and the behaviour of the students is always exemplary. I am thankful to the staff and parents who are attending the excursion. It is a big sacrifice for staff to leave their families and be on call for 36 hours. Mrs Rutkowski and the Year 6 teachers are in charge of all aspects of the excursion and will return on Friday night at approximately 6:15 pm.
This weekend we celebrate the gift of fathers. Many important male figures in the children’s lives are gifted with this role. These important male figures include fathers, grandfathers, uncles, relatives, friends and others. It is such an important role as all students need significant and good people in their lives. We do acknowledge the dual roles that mothers have when there is not a significant male figure in the children’s lives. Yesterday the school had a special BBQ breakfast and prayer for fathers and important males in the children’s lives. A special thank you is extended to our REC Mrs Mathieson and her wonderful team of staff who assisted to make the morning a success. A special thank you is extended to our Parents and Friends for providing a Father's Day stall for the students. Have a wonderful Sunday celebration everyone.
Yours in Faith and Virtue,
Mr Christopher Paton
