Religious Education
This coming week marks a very significant time in our Catholic Church. It is the most important event in our Catholic Church - Holy Week. Hopefully you and your family will make time to pray and reflect on these significant events at home.
Palm Sunday (5 April) is the final Sunday in the Lenten season, signifying the beginning of Holy Week. Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday is when we remember how Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey. It is called Palm Sunday because the people were so happy to see Jesus and knew that he was very important, so they took branches from the palm and olive trees that lined the road. They waved them in the air shouting ‘Hosanna’ (meaning ‘God saves’) and put them on the road to make it easier for the donkey to walk on.
Unfortunately, this Sunday we are unable to attend mass, where we would receive a palm to take home reminding us of Jesus’ triumphant journey into Jerusalem before he died and was resurrected.
This Sunday you may like to gather as a family and say a special prayer or read the Gospel of Matthew (see attached sheet). Maybe you could make your own palms and upload them next week as part of your Religion work.
During these uncertain and ever-changing times may the blessings of the Lord be with you on this Palm Sunday and always.
