NAIDOC Week
On the last Friday of the second term each year, St Michael's Nowra traditionally celebrates NAIDOC Week with an assembly inviting all Elders and families to attend. Unfortunately due to COVID, the official NAIDOC Week has been postponed until November. Although St Michael's is unable to have a NAIDOC Assembly this Friday, we would still like to mark the occasion by allowing all students to wear any combination of RED, BLACK and YELLOW tops for the last day of Term 2. The sports uniform is red, so it would be appropriate to wear it as parents are not expected to purchase anything to wear on Friday. The rest of the sports uniform will be worn with predominantly white runners as well.
The children have worked on a variety of activities over several weeks to have ready for display in their classes. This includes painting bollards with Aboriginal symbols connected to the Shoalhaven. In Year Six writing, the students have drafted their own class Acknowledgement of Country. In Kindergarten the students have practiced singing and dancing to a favourite song, "Red, Black and Yellow". Each week, Uncle Mark Mongta has visited the senior classes to discuss Reconciliation.
We are hoping to present these activities in our upcoming Zoom Assemblies.
