St Michael's Sports Corner
Whilst we have been living in the new social distancing world because of the Covid outbreak it has been pleasing to see that students have kept up the sporting participation throughout the year. We have just recently wrapped up the winter season and now the summer season of twilight soccer and netball, Little A’s and basketball are in full swing.
One student who has continued with his sporting achievements is Jett Goddard from Year 6. Despite COVID 19 cancelling all the school competitions of Cross Country, Jett found other ways to compete and continue to grow as a runner.
Jett competed in NSW Athletics State Cross Country short course (2km) on Sunday the 19th July and competed in the NSW Athletics State Cross country long course (3km) on Sunday 11th October at Dapto against a tough line up of state level competitors. He finished in the top 10 of the state and was recognised and made it into the NSW XC Honorary Team 2020.
Unfortunately, the National competition cannot go ahead this year again due to COVID, however Jett is to be commended on his efforts and we wish him all the luck his future running events.
As mentioned in the last newsletter we will be holding the St. Michael’s Twilight Swimming Carnival at Nowra Pool on Wednesday 2nd December. Years 2 to 5 are invited to participate as well as the current Year 1 students that will be turning 8 next year. In order to participate in the carnival students must be able to swim 50 metres easily and make a commitment to representing St. Michael’s at the Diocesan level. There will be restrictions around the event which will be in line with our Covid Safety Plan which is still being finalised at this stage and will be released at a later date.
Lastly, it’s great to see Dave from the South Coast AFL able to come into school and run an AFL program with the students of St. Michael’s. The students are having a great time learning all the kicking, passing, defensive and attacking skills of this great game, as well as the physical fitness, improved hand-eye coordination and communication skills required when playing as a team.
Keeping on the topic of AFL, the Shoalhaven Giants are offering free registration for any player for the 2021 season. This is a great opportunity to further develop your child’s skills and improve their overall wellbeing and fitness. For more information email shoalhavengiants@gmail.com
