National Apology Day
On Friday, our Year 6 Aboriginal Leaders conducted a Prayer Liturgy for National Apology Day at our three Stage Assemblies. National Apology Day is commemorated annually on the 13th February. We commemorate the 13th anniversary of the Australian Parliament's Apology to the Stolen Generations.
On this day in 2008, the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, formally acknowledged the immense suffering experienced by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people due to past Government policies of forced removal.
National Apology Day is a day to remember and pray for the children who were taken away from their families and homes. This apology was a step on the path to reconciliation. It is a commitment to right the wrongs of past injustices and is about building respect between all people.
