Dear Parents,
The last term of the school year has started well. I trust everyone had a relaxing break. On the last day of Term 3, the school celebrated the Feast day of our patron, Saint Michael. It was a beautiful mass and the engagement by the students was outstanding.
Thank you for sending the students back to school in their full summer uniform. They are wearing it with pride.
On Tuesday 15 October 2019, 12 of the Year 5 and 6 students participated in the annual ‘Public speaking’ competition in the school hall. All students who participated were very well prepared. I would like to congratulate all of the following Stage 3 students who participated on Tuesday:
- Liam Johnstone (5R), Imannjot Bahangu (5R), Oscar Spence (5B), Anya Ellerington (5B), Evie Wood (5W), Madison Campbell (5W), Abby Griffis (6B), Ben Speer (6B), Ashleigh Innes (6R), Abbey Poulton (6R), Elijah Guyatt (6W) and Chelsea Duncan (6W).
Ashleigh Innes (Year 6) and Evie Wood (Year 5) were selected to represent St Michael’s Nowra at the Regional Public Speaking Competition at St Joseph’s Bulli on Wednesday 23 October 2019. We wish both girls the best of luck.
We have a number of big events coming up this term. These include:
- Mark Taylor Cricket Shield for selected students and Mr Hunt on Wednesday 23 October 2019
- Kindergarten Orientation Evening for 2020 students on Thursday 24 October 2019
- Mission Mass - for all students on Friday 25 October 2019
- Year 5 Overnight Camp on 31 October 2019 and 1 November 2019
- Year 5 High School Workshop on Tuesday 5 November at St John’s Nowra
- School Fair - for our whole community on Sunday 10 November 2019
- First Holy Communion - for students on Sunday 24 November 2019 at 9.30am and 12 noon
- Numerous excursions
This is not a complete list! On Sunday week 27 October 2019, the school and parish will celebrate the regular “Mass with A Difference” which occurs a few times a year. The mass is at 6pm, usually on the God’s Grass area opposite the Year 4 and Year 2 classrooms. This is always a beautiful and lively mass. Please feel welcome to join us for the mass.
This week our school commenced a ‘Transition to School Through Playgroup’ for our new 2020 Kindergarten students. Both the Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning sessions were well attended and provided an opportunity for parents to engage in play with their children and for everyone to get to know each other. This is a great initiative supported by the Catholic Education Office Wollongong. Thank you to all staff who are involved in this initiative. The playgroup will continue on a Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning for the next three weeks.
Have a great term everyone.
Yours in Faith and Virtue,
Mr Christopher Paton
Welcome to Term 4. It will be another jammed packed term full of sport. There will be events including the conclusion of the Mark Taylor Cricket Shield, and events that are starting up, for example Diocesan sport teams selections for 2020.
Next Tuesday our Cricketers will be heading to Narellan Vale for their next match in the Mark Taylor Cricket Shield. They are coming up against St. Clare’s Narellan Vale. We wish our cricketers all the best in this game and hope they can make it to the next stage of the competition.
On Wednesday the 27th November, we will be holding our Twilight Swimming Carnival at Nowra Pool. Years 2 to 5 are invited to participate as well as the current Year 1 students that will be turning 8 next year. In order to participate in the carnival, students must be able to swim 50 metres easily and make a commitment to representing St. Michael’s at the Diocesan level.
I will be going around to see students in Grades 4 and 5 to see if they are eligible to trial for a Wollongong Diocesan team for 2020 in tennis, basketball and cricket. Students are required to be experienced players and extremely talented at their chosen sport. If they are successful during these trials they will go on to represent the Diocese of Wollongong at MacKillop Level Trials and might advance to represent at a State Level if they are successful at the MacKillop Trials. Nomination forms will be going to students who meet the criteria for their chosen sport and will need to be returned to me. Students who have nominated for a sport will be informed if they have been successful or unsuccessful to attend the trials when the trial date is near. If you have any questions, please see me.
Regards,
Mr. Allmark
Sports Co-ordinator
2019 School Fair
The 2019 St Michael’s School Fair will be here before we know it!!! Please save the date for Sunday the 10th of November, from 10:30am-2:30pm. Tell your friends, family, colleagues. Help us spread the word by sharing our social media posts and popping aside the date in your diary now, you won’t want to miss it!
If you have any unwanted books, plants, pots or succulents at home, we would love for you to keep them aside. Students should have received their plates by now to fill with goodies and return to school to sell at the School Fair. Our basket stall at the fair is extremely popular each year.

We are excited to announce that 94.9 Power FM will again be hosting their breakfast show at our school on Thursday the 7th of November, just in time for our School Fair! Stay tuned for more details.

Father Sanchez Visit - Passionist Family Group
After consultation and dialogue, and with the support of the Parish Priest, we have made a commitment to renew the Passionist Family Group Movement in our parish.
The date for the renewal and establishment of any new groups coming out of the renewal will be on 17 November at St. Michael’s Parish at 9:30 am
For this occasion, we will have members of the Passionist Family Group Team present.
The motto of the Movement is A Family for All. Family Groups provide an opportunity for individuals and families to belong to a small network who gather regularly for various inexpensive outings. As these people get to know one another, they are able to offer practical Christian care and support, “In good times and challenging times”.
More information will be provided in the parish newsletter over the next few weeks.
