Dear Parents,
Thank you for your assistance with the need to keep students at home last Tuesday. I am aware of the impact of such last minute decisions and thankfully all families and homes in our Shoalhaven region remained safe. Please keep in your prayers other families not as fortunate.
This morning the school welcomed the Kindergarten students for 2020. The parents joined us in the School Hall for a short address and the children stayed in the Kindergarten classrooms. The second Kindergarten Orientation morning will be on Thursday 28th November.
On Monday 11 November 2019 at 10.45am, the school had a short ‘Remembrance Day’ ceremony at the front flagpole area. Commemorating such an important day in world history was very important and we were joined by some present servicemen and returned servicemen. Thank you to the students and Mrs Wenban who assisted with the service.
On Sunday many families and the local community joined us for our SCHOOL FAIR. All of the stalls were highly successful and the food on offer was exceptional. There was a great sense of excitement during the day with raffles, books for sale, face painting, hair colouring, petting zoo, pony rides, dunking machine, games and showbags. The ‘St Michael’s Has Talent’ performances were outstanding and included over 60 students!! Many famous school identities participated in the ‘Dunking machine’ which provided welcomed aquatic relief from the hot day! Thank you to the many families and staff members who donated to the various stalls and to everyone who attended and contributed financially by purchasing goods. Thank you to the many students, past and present, who assisted with running stalls including the games on the oval. A big thank you is extended to our School Fair convenor Lucy Duncan and her extraordinary team. Their commitment to our school is exceptional and a big thank you is extended to all parents and friends who assisted on day. An additional thanks is extended to the parents and friends who assisted on the Saturday as well. Thank you all.
Tomorrow evening, a group of our students will receive medallions at the 23rd Annual CDF Sports Awards in Wollongong. These awards are given to students in Catholic schools within the Diocese of Wollongong. The awards occur at St Mary’s School in Wollongong. Congratulations to : Jalen Rees, Thomas Duncan, Aysha Sanchez and Jett Goddard.
On Sunday 24 November 2019, many of our Year 3 students and others in the Parish will receive their ‘First Holy Communion’ during two masses. The Sacrament of Eucharist is such a special time in the lives of Catholics and many of us remember the day with great nostalgia. The two masses will occur in the school hall at 9.30am and 12pm. Please keep these students and their families in your prayers during this special time.
Yours in Faith and Virtue,
Mr Christopher Paton
All quiet on the sports front this week, though there are some important events coming up over the next couple of weeks that some of our students will be involved in.
This coming Friday night, four students from St. Michael’s have been nominated for the Diocesan CDF Sport Awards. These awards acknowledge the outstanding achievements students have had in their sporting accomplishments. To be eligible for these awards the students must have been selected in a minimum of two Wollongong Diocesan teams. The four students nominated are Thomas Duncan, Aysha Sanchez, Jalen Rees and Jett Goddard. Their nominations for these awards are a great acknowledgement of the achievements and commitment they have displayed this year.
Next week, a number of students will be trialling for the Wollongong Diocesan team for 2020 in Basketball, Cricket and Tennis. We wish these students all the best of luck for the upcoming trials.
The St. Michael’s Twilight Swimming Carnival will be held on Wednesday the 27th November at Nowra Pool. The deadline for entries into the carnival has occurred and we are currently in the process of inputting all the students participating in their events. Please note that in order to participate in the carnival students must be able to swim 50 metres easily and unaided and make a commitment to representing St. Michael’s at the Diocesan level next year.
I have met with students in Years 4 and 5 to see if there are any students eligible to trial for a Wollongong Diocesan team for 2020 for the following sports AFL, rugby league, touch football, netball, hockey, football and rugby union. Notes went to students who met the criteria of being an experienced and talented representative player at their chosen sport. If they are successful during these trials, they will go on to represent the Diocese of Wollongong at MacKillop Level trials and might advance to represent at a State Level if they are successful. Nomination forms will be going to students who meet the criteria for their chosen sport and will need to be returned to me. Students who have nominated for a sport will be informed if they have been successful or unsuccessful to attend the trials when the trial date is near. If you have any questions, please see me.
Regards,
Mr. Allmark

School Fair
Firstly a huge thank you to all our families, who donated, baked, sponsored, bought and sold tickets, helped set up, pack up, ran stalls on the day and attended the Fair. Also, thank you to Mr Paton, Mrs Rutkowski and every staff member who generously gave up their weekend to help set up, pack up, assisted on stalls and being dunked. The Fair is a success each year due to your constant contribution, and the P&F could not do this without you.
The P&F would also like to publicly thank Lucy Duncan, who spends months of the year preparing and organising this Fair. Without Lucy, the Fair would not be the wonderful day it is for our school community.
Lastly we would like to thank our amazing sponsors.
