Dear Parents and Carers,
On the Friday of the first week of Term 2, our infants gathered on the back playground for a ‘Mini Cross Country’. The students were well supported by many of our Year 6 students. From all accounts, the students had a fun time. Thank you to the convenor Mrs Roles and all staff who organised the carnival. We look forward to parents re-joining us for the Mini Cross Country in 2022. The Diocesan Cross Country was hosted by St Michael’s school at Willandra last week. It was a wonderful day, well supported by a number of our parents. Congratulations to Mr Allmark (Convenor) and Mrs Boyton for their support of the students who participated on the day. Mr Allmark and his team ran an excellent Cross Country and are to be congratulated for its success. A special thank you to the parents who organised and ran the canteen.
Last week our students and families participated in a beautiful ANZAC commemoration organised by our new Defence School Mentor Mrs Natalie Hayes. We had numerous parents and guests join us for this moving tribute to Australian and New Zealand men and women who have protected us during conflict and peace times. The reverence of the students was exceptional and many of the parents and guests provided the most complimentary feedback. Congratulations to all.
On Wednesday 28 April 2021, many of our Year 6 families attended the second ‘Confirmation Preparation’ meeting in the school hall. The evening was run by Mrs Martine Mathieson, Father Leo and the Year 6 teachers. The theme was ‘Signs and Symbols’ and was aimed at giving students and their families more information about the sacrament as we move towards Bishop Brian Masdcord visiting our Parish to celebrate the two Confirmation masses. These will occur on Saturday 5 June at 2pm and Sunday 6 June at 11:30am. We are finalising the final numbers that each family can have attend the confirmations, following COVID19 directives from the Diocese of Wollongong. A letter offering attendance at the two masses will be sent home to parents today.
This week many of the students have commenced wearing the winter school uniform. We do appreciate the cost that families encounter when purchasing school uniforms and thank you for your support of our uniform policy. There are still some spare winter uniforms in our clothing pool, located near the school office. These items are free and are available due to your ongoing support with sending to school uniforms no longer required at home. Congratulations to our students for wearing their uniform so proudly, complete with the tie.
We are pleased to share with you that the playground equipment and sandpits on the back oval have now been reintroduced to students. These were made COVID19 safe last weekend following a thorough clean and use of an appropriate disinfectant and sanitiser. Thank you to our cleaners for continuing to keep our school clean and safe over the last 17 months.
As we return to ‘Post COVID19 Normal’, the student assembly roster for this term has been adjusted to allow for separate gatherings of infants and primary students. At some stage, we look forward to welcoming families back to our assemblies. We will keep you updated.

Today our Parents and Friends ran a Mother's Day stall for students to purchase a small thought for their mothers or significant people in their lives. Thank you to the parents who organised the stall and provided the opportunity. Mothers are such an important part of the children’s lives here at St Michael’s and are appreciated by their sons and daughters. I wish all mothers and significant people in the children’s lives a most beautiful celebration this weekend.
Yours in Faith and Virtue,
Mr Christopher Paton

On the 27th April, St Michael’s had 32 students representing the school in the Diocesan Cross Country at Willandra. It was an absolute stunning day and the conditions were fantastic for running. The students competed against other schools in the Diocese for a position on the Wollongong Cross Country team. The first 8 finishers for each age group were selected to represent Wollongong at NSWCPS Cross Country to be held at Eastern Creek on Tuesday 8th June. Each race had roughly 85 runners.
The students from St. Michael’s ran exceptionally well and must be extremely proud of their efforts. From the day, four students made it onto the Wollongong Team. Congratulations to:
8/9 Girls: Ella Walsh 8th
10 Girls: Milla Cooper 1st
11 Boys: Taj Goddard 6th
12 Girls: Anna Duncan 1st
St. Michael’s was the host school of the Diocesan Cross Country. A big thank you to Mr Paton and Mrs Boyton for their invaluable assistance over the course of the day getting not only St. Michaels’s ready, but all the schools. Also, the P&F ran a successful canteen on the day. A big thank you to Sophie Pavlis and all the parents who helped over the day.
Last Friday four boys from St. Michael’s, Taj Goddard, Noah Jamieson, Luke Keating and Brodee Green, represented the Diocese at the MacKillop NRL trials. The boys played 4 games against Sydney, Parramatta, Canberra/Goulburn and Wagga Wagga. It was a tough, hot day and the boys displayed great team spirit and sportsmanship on and off the field and should be commended. Taj was picked in the top 26 of possible and probables to play against each other in the 5th and last game to pick the final MacKillop team. Unfortunately, the boys didn’t make the team this year, but they should be very proud of their achievements representing the Diocese Team and St Michael’s school.
Anna Duncan from Year 6 represented the Diocese at the Mackillop Netball tryouts that were also held in Canberra. Anna played games against Sydney, Parramatta, Canberra/Goulburn and Wagga Wagga. Again, the games were very competitive and unfortunately Anna did not make it through to the possible and probables. Congratulations to Anna for her extraordinary effort making it to the Mackillop trials. Representative sport at this level is very competitive. Congratulations Anna on representing our school and Diocese.
Also last Friday, Taya Sanchez from Year 6, took her tennis representation to the next level. She played at for the MacKillop Tennis team last week up at Newcastle. She had an extremely busy week playing both singles and doubles. In her single matches Taya won 5 out of the 7 matches she played. In the doubles, Taya and her partner won all of their games. Taya and the MacKillop team placed 2nd overall in the tournament. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, there is no further representation Taya can take her tennis this year.
Finally, Zahli Schellnegger from Year 6, also represented the Wollongong Diocese in soccer at Goulburn, last Friday. She played 4 games against teams from the Sydney, Parramatta, Canberra/Goulburn and Wagga Wagga Dioceses. The level of competition was tough and over the course of the day her team won 3 games. Zahli contributed 1 goal to her team's outstanding performance and had lots of fun during the day. A big congratulations to not only Zahli, but all the other students who have represented the school over the past few weeks.

Yesterday numerous families received reminders about school fees. These were sent out to parents by CEO Wollongong, not the school.
If there are any concerns with meeting the school fee obligation please contact me through the school office to discuss your individual situation.
Our school is here for your children.

Over the past couple of weeks Art Club has made both masks and bookmarks. Students have loved being creative and have transformed a simple piece of cardstock into a masterpiece. Art Club is certainly very popular and the students are enjoying the activities. I hope you enjoy the photos from the last two weeks of Art Club.
Our school canteen is meeting the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy.
The Menu Check Service has assessed our menu application against the food and drink criteria of the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy. They informed us this week that our school canteen is meeting the requirements of the Strategy.
By having a healthy canteen we are supporting the health and wellbeing of our students.
Congratulations goes to our canteen manager Meagan Dempsey and the members of her team who have played a role in this achievement.
Dear Families of St Michael’s,
Many of us understand what a terrible disease cancer is and the burden it places on families. Unfortunately, so many of us are already connected to someone who has had to fight such an unimaginable fight. Similarly, we know too well the financial burden this places on a family with treatment, travel and accommodation to consider. It is because of this prevalence and impact on our own school community that I signed myself up to dance it out at the Stars of Nowra Dance for Cancer. This is because a little humiliation on my part helps reduce the affliction placed on these families. All funds raised for this event go directly to our local community and community members that are assisted by the Cancer Council. Part of my involvement in Stars is to create a goal and raise funds for this worthy cause. I would welcome any financial support that can be spared to help shape a better future and to provide the hope these heroes so desperately need. If you are keen to help out, you can donate below:

If you are keen on coming along to the event, please see the below details:
