Dear Parents and Caregivers,
In the last newsletter we traced the journey of Jesus Christ through the sad, challenging and joyous events of Holy Week. In the week leading to Good Friday, each grade of students in the school portrayed the important milestones leading to Jesus dying on the Cross. I am hoping that all families had a meaningful and spiritual Easter, with numerous opportunities to dwell on the story of Jesus and the new beginnings that Easter Sunday has given to us. When all students returned to school last Tuesday following the Easter break, Year 1 and Year 2 presented Jesus ‘rising from the dead’. A special gratitude is extended to all staff and students who presented the events of Holy Week to us.
During this last week, many families have engaged in ‘Parent-Teacher’ interviews. These are an excellent opportunity for parents to discuss their child’s progress with the teachers as well as share any important information about their child. The school views these interviews as a two way exchange of information to assist each child to reach their potential. Some interviews will occur during next week as well.
This coming Tuesday 9 April, the Parents and Friends (P&F) group will have their monthly meeting. The P&F have had a very successful term, organising a number of excellent activities including the Easter raffle. Congratulations to all of the winners of the Easter raffle and thank you to all families who donated Easter eggs and bought raffle tickets. The P&F and the school also sent a link to all families regarding the present school uniform and hair/grooming policy earlier this week. So far we have had 199 responses. Thank you for participating in the survey. The initial results will be discussed during the next couple of P&F meetings.
In Term 2, Mrs Barbara McKenna will be taking some well earned Long Service Leave to travel overseas to visit family and friends. Mrs McKenna will be away for the whole term and I would like to wish her the very best for a safe and enjoyable break. Mrs McKenna's teacher librarian role will continue next term and I will share details of the temporary replacement when interviews have been completed. Have a wonderful time Mrs McKenna.
School will conclude for Term 1 next Friday 12 April 2024. I would like to wish all staff, students and families a safe and enjoyable break. On the first scheduled day for Term 2, Monday 29 April 2024, all staff will participate in a Spirituality Day. The first day for students and parents in Term 2 will be Tuesday 30 April 2024. As ANZAC day will occur during the student vacation, St Michael’s Nowra will have our Remembrance Service on Friday 3 May, 2024. Information about ANZAC day has previously been distributed through previous newsletters. Thanks again everyone for a wonderful term.
Yours in faith and virtue

MACKILLOP AFL TRIALS
Morten Ellerington, Jack Webber and Charles Meagher, embarked on a journey to Wagga Wagga for the MacKillop AFL trials held on 25 March. The team arrived in Wagga on Monday, diving straight into their first training sessions that afternoon, honing their skills, practising drills and bonding together as a team.
The following day the boys engaged in a series of intense matches, playing five twenty-minute games against teams from Southern New South Wales. Charles showcased his prowess in the forward line, deftly maneuvering as a goal sneak and crumber. Jack utilised his speed and agility on the wing, fiercely competing for possession of the ball. Meanwhile, Morten's towering height made him a formidable presence in both the forward and back lines. Though the team faced narrow defeats in most encounters, they delivered a standout performance against Parramatta, keeping them scoreless, with Charles contributing a crucial goal.
Their time in Wagga proved immensely rewarding, as the boys relished the opportunity to forge new friendships and engage in competitive football matches. Congratulations for their commendable efforts!

We're excited to share some amazing updates from the P&F!
Firstly, congratulations to all the winners of our recent Easter raffle! We raised an impressive $2,469.06! Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and donated. Your contributions were essential in reaching this fundraising total. With this support, we can enhance our Infant and Primary playgrounds with new toys and storage containers for the sandpits. A big thank you also to our parent helpers for their efforts in making our hampers.
We're pleased to share that this term, we've collectively raised a total of $4,119.60! This achievement highlights the dedication and support of our school community. Well done to everyone for your outstanding contributions and commitment to our fundraising efforts.
Looking ahead, we are excited to invite you to our next P&F meeting, scheduled for next Tuesday 9 April at 6 p.m in the school library. This is an open invitation to all members of our school community, and we look forward to welcoming both new and old faces! A zoom link will also be provided for those unable to attend in person.
As we move forward, the P&F Committee is hard at work planning our upcoming Term 2 events. We are reaching out to our community for parent helpers to assist us in making these events a success. In particular, we are seeking volunteers for the Diocesan Cross Country event on Tuesday 7 May, where we will be operating a P&F canteen. Additionally, assistance is needed for the Mother's Day Stall before and after school on the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th of May, as well as for our Mother's Day Morning Tea on Friday 10 May. If you are able to lend a hand, please reach out at stmichaelspnf@gmail.com.
